We have EVEN BIGGER PLANS IN 2022.

As much as a field needs water, people need the arts to thrive. You literally helped the arts to the field at Unity Park. It was just the kind of event everyone needed this year. In the face of prolonged separation, we found occasions to come together -- finding joy in the events that make The Shea special. Some of our fondest memories include:

  • WRSI’s 40th Anniversary at Unity Park with Rubblebucket, Winterpills, and And The Kids, where over 1,000 folks came together for a free show to celebrate the return of live music.

  • Shea Away Outdoor Music Series at Peskeomskut Park, we co-produced five shows in collaboration with RiverCulture.

  • The Secret of Sinchanee red carpet premiere, of a movie filmed in Franklin County, with multiple nods at the Golden Globe Awards, which strengthens The Shea’s relationship with Hollywood.

  • Diverse theatrical and music shows with partners including Eggtooth Productions, Page One Productions, DSP Presents, Signature Sounds and Pioneer Valley Jazz Shares.

We have even bigger plans for 2022.

Having celebrated our fifth year as the theaters’ operators, we’re committed to building an even stronger organization. We’re planning to greatly expand in-house production capabilities, hire a part time theater tech, house manager and volunteer coordinator to expand programming. We are also planning continuing investments in the theater -- replacing the remaining old chairs and matching state funds to upgrade theatrical lighting and add a marquee to the theater.

Please invest with us in the Shea to water the fields where the arts thrive.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM US TO YOU!

Love,

The Shea

Exciting News for A Happening IV: Leviathan

Cloudgaze and Eggtooth Productions are thrilled to announce that we have received a generous grant from the Markham-Nathan Fund for Social Justice to support our 2024 Immersive Arts Festival, “A Happening IV: Leviathan.”

This festival will transform the Shea Theater into an exploration of theme, hosting installations, music, theatrical performances, and movement pieces, featuring the collective contributions of over 30 local artists. Audiences will experience otherworldly environments and narratives inspired by folklore, fairy tales, horror motifs, American literature, and the mythos of the Old Testament, all of which delve into the central question guiding the festival: "What does it mean to encounter something greater than yourself and to be consumed by it?" Through this theme, we explore how a community reemerges and imagines itself after destruction and transformation.

With the support of the Markham-Nathan Fund, we are excited to create an event that complicates perspectives and fosters meaningful dialogue. We are grateful for this partnership and for the work of the Markham-Nathan Fund for Social Justice.

Thanks to the Mass Cultural Council for their vital support this year. We'd also like to thank the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts for their support in the form of a Flexible Funding grant. We couldn't do this work without you!
