RUBBERBANDance GROUP- Creative Shareback: Our Origin Stories

Please join RUBBERBANDance GROUP for a community conversation with artistic director and choreographer Victor Quijada, music collaborator Jasper Gahunia and dancers. Victor will share his origin story and present excerpts from his solo work and discuss the music collaboration. The audience is invited to engage in a dialogue with the company, sharing their own personal stories and perspectives on themes of origin, homeland and identity. Victor Quijada was born in Los Angeles. His parents are Mexican immigrants and his choreography pays homage to his street dance origins. RBDG's is known for their distinct mixture of contemporary, ballet and hip-hop dance moves.

Sharebacks: These community conversations are a key element to the development/building a deeper relationship with the different communities surrounding the presenting venue. During the 19-20 tour of Ever So Slightly, choreographer Victor Quijada, music collaborator Jasper Gahunia and dancers will engage in the Share-Backs. Victor will share his origin story and present excerpts from his solo and discuss the music collaboration. The audience is invited to engage in the dialogue with the company, sharing their own personal stories and perspectives on themes of origin, homeland and identity. Victor is excited to take these talks to the community. They can be organized in studios, on campus, in community centers, church halls etc to maximize reaching the surrounding population

Exciting News for A Happening IV: Leviathan

Cloudgaze and Eggtooth Productions are thrilled to announce that we have received a generous grant from the Markham-Nathan Fund for Social Justice to support our 2024 Immersive Arts Festival, “A Happening IV: Leviathan.”

This festival will transform the Shea Theater into an exploration of theme, hosting installations, music, theatrical performances, and movement pieces, featuring the collective contributions of over 30 local artists. Audiences will experience otherworldly environments and narratives inspired by folklore, fairy tales, horror motifs, American literature, and the mythos of the Old Testament, all of which delve into the central question guiding the festival: "What does it mean to encounter something greater than yourself and to be consumed by it?" Through this theme, we explore how a community reemerges and imagines itself after destruction and transformation.

With the support of the Markham-Nathan Fund, we are excited to create an event that complicates perspectives and fosters meaningful dialogue. We are grateful for this partnership and for the work of the Markham-Nathan Fund for Social Justice.
