Perform Julius Caesar

at the Shea Theater in Turners Falls, MA

Performances are Open to the Public - Admission is Free

Plots are forming, alliances are shifting, and the Ides of March is coming. On January 16, 17, and 18, 2026, the Young Shakespeare Players East ensemble will re-create one of the most important moments in world history by performing—uncut—one of Shakespeare's most famous plays, Julius Caesar.

Julius Caesar explores themes such as conspiracy, liberty, corruption, ambition, and tyranny. For the Young Shakespeare Players, ages 8–18, immersing themselves in Shakespeare’s work and the world of ancient Rome has been a deep and rewarding process. Their performances are certain to inspire audiences to reflect on the modern condition, politics, leadership, and history.

In mid-play, Cassius, who has just helped kill Julius Caesar exclaims: "How many ages hence/Shall this our lofty scene be acted over/In states unborn and accents yet unknown!" This remarkably thoughtful moment shows Shakespeare looking back more than 1,600 years to a pivotal historical event, while also imagining far into the future—including our own time. The actors of Young Shakespeare Players East feel honored to participate in this long artistic tradition as they re-create their own “lofty scene.”

There are two YSP casts performing Julius Caesar. Casts are mixed age with performers as young as 8 and as old as 18. Each cast will perform twice and be the tech crew for the other cast twice. Admission is FREE and open to the public, no reservations needed, and there will be delicious concessions available for sale; all proceeds support YSP East’s scholarship fund. We encourage people of all ages to come to the Shea and enjoy the shows on January 16, 17, 18 to experience this timeless, riveting play.
