"It's Mardi Gras Time"! New Orleans powerhouse jazz and blues vocalist Samirah Evans and and the popular ten legged Rock and Roll machine Trailer Park are joining forces once again to bring you a spectacular Mardi Gras party, Saturday March 9th at 8pm. The top three best Mardi Gras costumes will be rewarded during the costume contest!
Samirah Evans has headlined numerous Fat Tuesday celebrations since emigrating from the Big Easy to New England following hurricane Katrina. But last year she really hit her stride with her debut performance at the Shea Theater backed by Trailer Park. The collaboration was such a success that it landed them a spot at the Green River Festival upon its producer Jim Olsen’s invitation.
Together Evans and Trailor park offer up an infectious combo of dance music including New Orleans R&B and rock, blues, and originals from both the Trailer Park and Samirah’s repertoire.
The Shea theaters seating provides a perfect setting for the scene. The stadium seating enables audience members to enjoy the concert with an unobstructed view of the stage, while revelers have ample room in front of the bandstand for dancing.
Trailer Park’s regular quintet consist of Tom Mahnken (Bass and Vocals), James Robinson (Guitar and Vocals), Joe Fitzpatrick (Drums), Greg Lauzon (Saxophones) and Rick Page (Saxophones). This show will be pulling out the stops with a third guest saxophonist Dave Trenholm and special guest pianist Peter Jones. The group has been together for more than 20 years, releasing six CDs and sharing stages with the likes of Los Lobos, NRBQ, Little Feat, Bo Diddley, WAR and Rat Dog.
Samirah Evans musical style is heavily influenced by the New Orleans sound where she was among the city’s most popular and in-demand singers. Her 1990 debut at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival began a stint of 15 consecutive years performing there as a leader or featured vocalist, and she was a fixture in both clubs and concert venues throughout the Crescent City, including Snug Harbor, Tipitina’s and the House of Blues. During her career, she has toured North and South America, Europe and Asia, sharing stages with a multitude of New Orleans notables and legendary artists, including James Brown, B.B. King, Dr. John, Aaron Neville, Charles Neville, Terence Blanchard, Donald Harrison, Jr., Poncho Sanchez, Bob Dorough, Irma Thomas, Kermit Ruffins, Trombone Shorty and Sam Kininger, Sheila Jordan,
Advance tickets are also available at River Valley Co-op and Turn iT Up Brattleboro, VT.

Exciting News for A Happening IV: Leviathan
Cloudgaze and Eggtooth Productions are thrilled to announce that we have received a generous grant from the Markham-Nathan Fund for Social Justice to support our 2024 Immersive Arts Festival, “A Happening IV: Leviathan.”
This festival will transform the Shea Theater into an exploration of theme, hosting installations, music, theatrical performances, and movement pieces, featuring the collective contributions of over 30 local artists. Audiences will experience otherworldly environments and narratives inspired by folklore, fairy tales, horror motifs, American literature, and the mythos of the Old Testament, all of which delve into the central question guiding the festival: "What does it mean to encounter something greater than yourself and to be consumed by it?" Through this theme, we explore how a community reemerges and imagines itself after destruction and transformation.
With the support of the Markham-Nathan Fund, we are excited to create an event that complicates perspectives and fosters meaningful dialogue. We are grateful for this partnership and for the work of the Markham-Nathan Fund for Social Justice.
Thanks to the Mass Cultural Council for their vital support this year. We'd also like to thank the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts for their support in the form of a Flexible Funding grant. We couldn't do this work without you!
